In looking for an answer (thinking it was probably a driver issue), I looked on Lenovo's website for 3.0 drivers intended for Windows 8, only to find they only existed for Windows 7. Additionally, whenever connecting, I have to manually give the drive a path before it mounts, which I didn't have to do in 7. It worked as it should have in each instance, so I ruled out the possibility of a drive malfunction. Thinking at first that my drive had crapped out on me, I tested it on other computers, including my friend who had a T530 running Windows 7.
Then I upgraded to Windows 8, and lost the ability to use the 3.0 ports.
When I first got the T530, USB 3.0 worked flawlessly, peaking at around 700MB/s transfer speed, which, while far below the theoretical, was more than enough for the files stored/backups made. Its interfaced through USB 3.0, so it's not a cable issue. The drive I'm trying to access is this one.
